PROVIDING FOR VETERANS
Assumption Named a Top 10 Military Friendly® School
Assumption University is one of the nation’s best institutions for Veterans and has been recognized as a Military Friendly® School Top 10 Award for 2024-25. This designation sets the standard for higher education institutions to best serve Veterans and their spouses.
Veterans Lounge
Veterans, like most people, flourish in environments with those who understand their background and training. Assumption University worked with student-Veterans and faculty-Veterans on the design and outfitting of a Veterans lounge. The lounge was designed to provide a central space on campus where Veterans can study, meet with other Veterans, and feel comfortable in an environment that is supportive of their needs.
The Veterans Lounge is located in the Information Technology Center, Room 125 and 126.
Special Ops: SMVF Program
The leadership from the rehabilitation counseling, school counseling, and health advocacy programs developed a specialized certificate program (Special Ops: SMVF). This 6-8 course, 18-24 credit online Special Ops: Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families (SMVF) program provides training for individuals in the human services field, arming them with knowledge of relevant issues facing Service Members, Veterans, and their Families. The program is designed to prepare individuals to work with Service Members, Veterans, and their families in human resource and healthcare industries.
Annual Veterans’ Day Observance
Each year, the Assumption University community pauses to recognize and thank Veterans for their selfless sacrifices in service of our country. The event features an alumni guest speaker who served in the Armed Forces and each Veteran in attendance is honored with an Assumption University challenge coin.
W.I.S.E. Program Collaboration
Assumption University is pleased to host the Worcester Institute for Senior Education (WISE), a lifelong learning institute for older adults in Central Massachusetts who share a love of learning and community engagement. Many WISE members are Veterans who are always willing to lend an ear, or hand, to a fellow service member. The Assumption University WISE program is a member-run organization that values peer learning, participation and leadership. Members develop a full schedule of educational and cultural programs, running from September into June.
